I am fully aware of that. My point is that I should be able to
take any existing compiled ia32 packages, install it on an ia64
system and run it if all its dependencies are also there. That
should hold for libc, bash, mozilla, etc. I should not be forced
to take an ia32 packages, unpack it in a temporary directory,
move all kinds of paths arounds for libraries and then install it.

The concept of a single-architecture system is getting obsolete,
and imho we should move to /lib/<arch> or /lib-<arch> for
everything that is architecture dependent.
