I have really been taking a liking to Joyent's SmartOS. Solaris is something I've always wanted to run, and now, honestly I don't know why I used anything else.

You should, except that AIX is a pretty lousy client OS these days, IMHO.
AIX's desktop functionality really took a nosedive with AIX 5L.
