This one didn't appear to get answered...

The Gopher Project was sort of started by John Goerzen, author of several
Linux and programming books and articles; see his home page[1] for
specifics.  He wrote one of the first "gopher revival" gopher servers
(pyGopherd), maintains (still?) the old UMN gopher client, and for several
years hosted the gopher projects' email list, of which the archives[2]
are still located at quxx.org, his other site.

John seems like a busy guy and has largely moved on to other things.
Before doing so he moved the gopher project email list over to the Debian
project's mailman-based listserv, hence the current arrangement.
