The problem might be then related to the fact that android doesn't know about gopher:// URLs, so it can't download the image itself (?) If so, maybe embedding the image right into the html code could be some kind of workaround? Something like:

I haven't had to make many updates to Overbite because it "just works" with everything. It doesn't use Google Play Services and runs even on 1.5.
