I completely agree with that!
NNTP is much more efficient than a mailing list for such kind of usage.
Besides, I guess that most of us are already subscribed to comp.infosystems.gopher anyway.
I was always wondering why the gopher mailing list is more popular than the newsgroup comp.infosystems.gopher...
