[gopher] Re: Item Type Suggestions

Not true.  A WAV file and a MPG file are NOT the same, yet they can legitimately be assigned Item Type 9 (binary file) under Gopher.  Only with the extension will the HUMAN know what kind of binary file (sound or movie) has been tagged as Item Type 9.

Gopher is actually an improved version of FTP.  Don't you hate going to an FTP site and not knowing what files have been posted, because they were posted without extensions??

On Gopher, filetype "extensions" are specified with the item type.
This protocol is not a BBS and never has been.
