debfoster and apt
Hi,
in the last week, debfoster has lost two third of its maintainer team. I
am the only one left and while I can do basic maintenance, I am not in a
situation to maintain the code base.
I think that apt should be able to take over, so that debfoster's
functionality would be integrated in apt. I know that apt is not very
sophisticated in interactive use, but maybe it would be possible to
write a wrapper, or a program using python-apt which can replace
debfoster.
I use debfoster on an almost daily basis both on my developement systems
and even - less often - on my servers to keep the installation set
small. Since apt has grown so much additional functionality in the last
years, I am wondering whehter this functionality is maybe already
present, slumbering inside apt-mark, for example.
How would I used apt to iterate over the set of packages that nothing
depends on and give the user the choice to deinstall those packages?
debfoster goes a step further and offers an additional "deinstall this
and all dependencies that nothing else depends on" choice.
If apt cannot do this today, is it realistic to have something like that
implemented inside the apt project?
Greetings
Marc
