Well, I have yet to see such a failure for myself, but I guess I am just incredibly lucky as usual (that is, on stretch boxes). Ideally the tor network would take care of (at least some) of the network problems. If you intend on trying if it helps I would suggest using the right option through: "Acquire::Retries" as documented in apt.conf manpage. The one with "apt" in the front does not exist and has hence no effect – any observed difference can be attributed to the placebo effect… (and improvements in tor). The option isn't specific to the tor transport so I would personally like to avoid setting it in apt-transport-tor without good reason and "proof" that it actually helps. I guess that option is particularily low risk, but activating any non-default setting for a (small) subset of systems always carries a risk of activating also bugs with it. The very nature of the option makes it also particularily hard to test – apt itself hasn't a single test covering this option. Best regards David Kalnischkies
