Hi,

apt supports content-addressed metadata files (Translations, Packages, Sources, ..).

With this feature, we can have significantly more robust Debian mirrors.

Please provide a spec of what apt expects from the archive so our friendly
ftpteam can implement this archive side.

Thanks,

Hi,

(never tried sending a mail to two bugs while closing one of them…
lets see how that goes – and sorry already for all the breakage caused)

I have updated the wiki-spec to include a paragraph about by-hash,
please everyone feel free to extend/correct/replace it as spec writing
isn't my strong suite – and its a wiki after all…

==> https://wiki.debian.org/RepositoryFormat
- https://wiki.debian.org/RepositoryFormat#indices_acquisition_via_hashsums_.28by-hash.29

Sidenote: I also added documentation for the server/client requirements
for the arch:all splitout in Contents (and co) and [later?] Packages.

And to paraphrase Knuth:
Beware of bugs in the above spec/apt; I have only guessed the behaviour
from testcases we once wrote for apt, not actually tried it.

With that text I consider apts part of the deal done, so I am closing
the bugreport, but if there is anything else we should provide or if
questions remained open feel free to reopen/ask.

Best regards

David Kalnischkies
