Package: aptVersion: 4.12.0The error:W: Failed to fetch http://cdn.debian.net/debian/dists/jessie/updates/main/binary-amd64/Packages: 404 Not FoundE: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.Below are two example mirrors causing the problem. The direct link shows 404 not found. Browsing up to the "jessie" directory confirms that the "updates" directory does not exist, or is not publicly accessible. Same result via web proxy. Tried httpredir.debian.org and cdn.debian.net. It seems that various mirrors have this problem. It does not appear to be related to apt or the redirector.Does this mean that these mirrors are incomplete? If so, should they be auto removed? Failing to fetch updates seems like a major security hole.. Could the redirector or aptitude maybe auto try another mirror when one responds 404?Thank you!

Were this a mirror problem, this bug should be reassigned to the "mirrors" package. Instead, I'm going to close it, as this appears to be user error: > The error: > W: Failed to fetch > http://cdn.debian.net/debian/dists/jessie/updates/main/binary-amd64/Packages: 404 Not Found > E: Some index files failed to download. Those suites are not expected to be available via standard mirrors; one should use security.debian.org. (The suites once hosted on the "volatile" archive and containing updates announced via debian-stable-announce@lists are named *-updates and *are* on mirrors.) Regards, Adam
