Package: apt Version: 1.1.4 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer, ================================================================================== After upgrading from apt 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 (testing) I noticed apt-cache policy no longer shows pinning info, for example => apt-cache policy sendmail-bin sendmail-bin: Installed: 8.14.9-1 Candidate: 8.14.9-1 Version table: 8.15.2-2 500 500 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu/debian testing/main i386 Packages 8.14.9-4 500 500 http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20150904 testing/main i386 Packages 8.14.9-2 500 500 http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20150720 testing/main i386 Packages *** 8.14.9-1 1001 500 copy:/usr3/Installs/DEB ./ Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 8.14.4-8 500 500 http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20141018 testing/main i386 Packages Actually, sendmail-bin_8.14.9-1 is up to date on this system because of this pin in /etc/apt/preferences.d/: Package: sendmail-bin Pin: version 8.14.9-1 Pin-Priority: 1001 Earlier versions of apt-get showed also the pin info, so it would be easy to tell that the package was actually pinned (and to verify it could not be upgraded by mistake), something like: => apt-cache policy sendmail-bin sendmail-bin: Installed: 8.14.9-1 Candidate: 8.14.9-1 Pin: 8.14.9-1 <<<<<<<<<<<<<< no longer appears in apt_1.1.4 Version table: ... Restoring this behavior would make it much easier to see why a package is kept at a version that is not the latest. What to display in these cases? Julian (and I) therefore decided to drop this line as it tends to be more confusing than helpful. Have a look at the end of the output of "apt-cache policy" for a list of all package (versions) effected by pins. The output changed slightly with 1.1, but the list itself exists also in earlier versions. Also, if you look very closely at the package specific policy display you can see now that the version you specified is pinned to 1001. I hope that helps you getting over the "loss" as both is intend to be the better replacement, but feel free to report back if that isn't working for you. Marking the bug as closed in the meantime as I don't see Pin: coming back as-was. Best regards David KalnischkiesAttachment: signature.asc
