Package: apt Version: 0.7.18 Severity: normal The problem is on an OpenMoko FreeRunner using the fso-pkg repository (which only exists as "unstable") as well as the normal Debian "testing" repository. See below a reproduction of a shell session showing that apt-get refuses to install a package for reasons that are simply not true: all the packages claimed as "not going to be installed" are already installed and with a recent enough version. So either the decision is incorrect, or the error message is incorrect. Stefan # apt-get install fso-frameworkd Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: fso-frameworkd: Depends: python (>= 2.5) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-support (>= 0.7.1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-serial but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-yaml but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-gst0.10 but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-dbus but it is not going to be installed Depends: alsa-utils but it is not going to be installed Depends: fso-frameworkd-wireless-glue but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages # dpkg -l python python-support python-serial python-yaml python-gst0.10 python-dbus alsa-utils fso-frameworkd-wireless-glue apt Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Cfg-files/Unpacked/Failed-cfg/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++-========================-========================-================================================================ ii alsa-utils 1.0.16-2 ALSA utilities ii apt 0.7.18 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii fso-frameworkd-wireless- 0.8.4.3-20081118-2 freesmartphone.org Framework Daemon - wireless glue ii python 2.5.2-3 An interactive high-level object-oriented language (default vers ii python-dbus 0.82.4-2 simple interprocess messaging system (Python interface) ii python-gst0.10 0.10.12-1.1 generic media-playing framework (Python bindings) ii python-serial 2.3-1 pyserial - module encapsulating access for the serial port ii python-support 0.8.4 automated rebuilding support for Python modules ii python-yaml 3.05-2 YAML parser and emitter for Python # -- Package-specific info: -- (no /etc/apt/preferences present) -- -- (/etc/apt/sources.list present, but not submitted) -- -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: armel -- no debconf information

Not encountered in seven years, I think this is implicitly saying that this problem is solved for good, but if you can still reproduce this feel free to reopen!
