Package: apt Version: 0.7.20 Severity: normal Dear APT development team, lately I see files accumulating in /var/lib/apt/lists/partial from "aptitude update" to "aptitude update". In my understanding, in this directory should only remain files in case the "update" command got interrupted somehow. Shouldn't the files in directory /var/lib/apt/lists/partial not be removed automatically? -- Regards, Jörg-Volker.

That is what happens™. It should happen even better with what we have in debian/experimental at the moment as this features a rewrite of the acquire system. > In addition, bug #762891 should be fixed as well, because partial lists It is now - in the same experimental version. > The bug is easily reproducible by placing incomplete Realease lists > inside the /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ directory. Please fix this bug. I can't reproduce it with this anymore, so this is therefore done. Note that this bug developed into a kind of catch all as the initial report was an incompatibility of aptitude with a newer libapt, some messages in between were talking about a bug in handling of pdiffs, which weren't cleanup and the last one is actually a report about apt writing to a file endlessly filling up the disk… but catch-alls aren't useful to work with, and all these I mentioned are fixed in the meantime as well, so yet another reason to close this now.
