I think we should deal with the breakage itself earlier through as this hack is broken in jessie – and whatever I might cook up for stretch is unlikely to find its way into jessie. I would go for a s#InstVer#P.InstallVer#g on the if as you suggested, but without the removal of the new-installation check to restore the behaviour we had before I 'fixed' it (minus the problem I actually fixed in terms of packages changing sections). While your patch fixes the additional problems you mentioned I am not very keen on pushing such a change (which in the end is totally new behaviour) for stable – and additionally I am one of the people who would consider it overriding user configuration… (just for the record: The bug here will be "recycled" for the breakage of Never-Mark-Auto and be closed around next week, depending a bit on Michaels return and the gcc5 transition) Best regards & see you at DebConf :) David Kalnischkies
