Package: apt Version: 0.9.7.9+deb7u7 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, when I performed apt-get update and apt-get upgrade this morning I suddenly received the below error message: The value 'stable' is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a release is not available in the sources I've never seen this msg before and I have no clue why it appears. Googling for it produced some hits, but the issue described there doesn't seem to apply. I didn't touch the config since ages, so it can't be due to a local modification. Must be something that changed on the repository. Note that this is supposed to protect you, althrough it usually happens the other way around with the release set to "wheezy", stable in the sources.list and an unusually large unprepared upgrade happening cause of that… What would happen to you without apt erroring out depends a bit on the rest on other sources you have present, but it is usually not good. After all: You have set this option for a reason, better not silently ignore it then… ("You" with a broad definition here. It can very well be that a tool did that for you, but it surely wasn't apt by itself). So, to "fix" this either change the value in the configuration or take it as a hint to start reading the release notes of the fantasic new Debian release nicknamed "jessie" to which you can upgrade now (details on how to do that are given in the release notes).
