It seems that the broken apt has broken the apt metadata and that the fixed version of apt still can't update them, the same errors are printed. If I then delete the apt directory and re-download the data, everything is fine. If you would like to compare the good and bad ones, please login to lw08 (path below). You could also copy the apt-good and apt-bad directories to your home computer.
