http is homegrown, https is libcurl based, ftp is again homegrown, but
basically unmaintained. A quick lookup on curl suggests that socks
support could be relatively easy to support with it, but I would much
prefer a patch from someone actually using it rather than me (or anyone
else) shooting into the dark. Even more so for the other two.
Bonuspoints for someone who can come up with a testcase for it.

Until then, the last time I heard about socks (which was years ago) in
regards to apt, it was also mentioned that tsocks works good with apt.
