Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.11.10-1lenny1.1+b1 Severity: normal As shown in the appended output, "aptitude update" seems to be downloading some "pdiff" files twice. I'm also appending my sources.list file incase it matters. ============= aptitude update output =================== Get:1 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny Release.gpg [189B] Get:2 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny Release [74.5kB] Get:3 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny Release.gpg [189B] Get:4 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main Packages/DiffIndex [2038B] Get:5 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny Release [74.5kB] Hit http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/contrib Packages/DiffIndex Hit http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/non-free Packages/DiffIndex Get:6 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main Sources/DiffIndex [2038B] Hit http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/contrib Sources/DiffIndex Hit http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/non-free Sources/DiffIndex Get:7 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main Packages/DiffIndex [2038B] Get:8 http://security.debian.org lenny/updates Release.gpg [189B] Get:9 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [13.8kB] Get:10 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [3955B] Get:11 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [13.8kB] Get:12 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [3955B] Get:13 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [13.8kB] Hit http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/non-free Packages/DiffIndex Hit http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/contrib Packages/DiffIndex Get:14 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main Sources/DiffIndex [2038B] Hit http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/non-free Sources/DiffIndex Hit http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/contrib Sources/DiffIndex Get:15 http://security.debian.org lenny/updates Release [40.8kB] Get:16 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [13.8kB] Get:17 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [3955B] Get:18 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [13.8kB] Get:19 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [3955B] Ign http://security.debian.org lenny/updates/main Packages/DiffIndex Get:20 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [3955B] Get:21 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [4307B] Get:22 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [4307B] Ign http://security.debian.org lenny/updates/main Sources/DiffIndex Hit http://security.debian.org lenny/updates/main Packages Get:23 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [13.8kB] Get:24 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [1651B] Get:25 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [1651B] Hit http://security.debian.org lenny/updates/main Sources Get:26 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-23-0842.24.pdiff [3955B] Get:27 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [4307B] Get:28 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [4307B] Get:29 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [4307B] Get:30 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [1651B] Get:31 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [1651B] Get:32 http://debian.lcs.mit.edu lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [1651B] Get:33 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [4307B] Get:34 http://ftp3.nrc.ca lenny/main 2008-11-24-0845.42.pdiff [1651B] Fetched 246kB in 13s (18.4kB/s) Reading package lists... Version: 0.9.14.3~exp1 Hi, apt version 0.9.14.3~exp1 changed rred handling "completely" (at least by default), so its a) passing by a lot faster and b) each pdiff is only listed once (expect the last one) so it behaves like status reports for other files in the mix. Nobody complained about those, so that display seems to be "good enough". See also my other message in this bug-group: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=605873#10 In the end, the propose of this display isn't to show all freaking details about what happens but a birdseye view just so that an observer can see that "something" happens… Best regards David KalnischkiesAttachment: signature.asc
