In Debian Reference, it makes a comparison between apt-get / apt-cache and aptitude. It tells about the advantage of aptitude. For example, it says 'aptitude is most suitable for the daily interactive package management such as inspecting installed packages and searching available packages.'

And, another reason is that in most pages of Debian Reference, it uses aptitude instead of apt-get / apt-cache.
