Bug#654698: [apt-get] extremely cryptic "unmet dependencies" message
Package: apt
Version: 0.8.6
Severity: important
commands like apt-get install, apt-get upgrade etc frequently run into dependency problems, resulting in pretty much unreadable messages like:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libc6-dev : Breaks: cmake (< 2.8.4+dfsg.1-5) but 2.8.2-2 is to be installed
Breaks: gcc-4.4 (< 4.4.6-4) but 4.4.5-2 is to be installed
One could guess it means libc6-dev depends on cmake and gcc, and that it requires cmake with version < 2.8.4, but then the message is still wrong, since one would also guess it's going to install cmake-2.8.2-2, which sure is < 2.8.4.
A more sensible message would be greatly appreciated.
Offering a (link to) possible solution of such conflict would also be nice :)
