Hmm perhaps it is because of my sources.list

after removing testing and unstable - there is no segfault anymore
adding testing again => segfault

which one of testing?

ups with this one:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
now i get an error message :

Reading Package Lists... Error!
E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room
E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room
E: Error occured while processing netstd (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
(no debugging symbols found)...(no debugging symbols found)...
Program exited with code 0144.

this one works:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian-non-US testing/non-US main contrib non-free

and both:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian-non-US testing/non-US main contrib non-free

give me a segfault:

hope this helps

Closing this bug, as it is not really something that can
be fixed in APT.
