Thanks a lot! One line patch attached.

You are partly right. The problem is the new dependency, but not itself.
Its the automatically installed libcairo2-dev package which needs to be
upgraded as libcairo2 is upgraded which causes a bunch of new packages
to be installed which are all "garbage" as the only package who needs them
is garbage, too.

The autoremover thinks at first that it is useless to install new garbage
packages and therefore removes them - later it notices that installed
garbage packages depend on this new garbage, so it reinstalls them
but it "forgets" to install the dependencies of these new garbage packages…
