APT ~exp9 builts fine on i386 here with:
gcc-4.4 (4.4.4-6) and gcc-4.5 (4.5.0-7) together with libc6 (2.11.2-2).
Also the manpage of va_start suggests (especially in va_copy section)
that architectures handle va_lists differently.

Anyway, Michael tried the constness removal for me and
it builds fine now on amd64 so consider it fixed soon. :)
