Bug#545208: APT, UTF-8 or ?? in long descriptions

package apt
tags 545208 + pending
# apt-cache truncated Descriptions upon non-ASCII
forcemerge 545208 461159
# kimiwitu: description trimmed
forcemerge 545208 487230
# use //TRANSLIT when recoding Description
forcemerge 545208 524406
thanks

Michael has merged a very simple patch from me,
which inserts a ? every time iconv has failed and
proceed with the next character. (revno 1844.1.5)

While i am not very happy with the ? symbol itself
question marks should be rare in a description and
as multibyte characters are recognized as two (or more)
characters you get two in a row, which should
be even more rare in a normal description.

Therefore the description for deja-dup will be
D??j?? Dup is a simple backup program. [...]

Looks a bit ugly but it is deferentially better than
truncating... I like utf-8 even more now. ;)
