Bug#537863: apt-get --tar-only source needs debian version

Package: apt
Version: 0.7.21
Severity: minor
File: /usr/bin/apt-get

To download the tarball for a specific source package version,
I need to specify the full debian version:

  apt-get --tar-only --only-source source mdadm=3.0-1

it would be nice if I could just specify 3.0 and apt-get would do
the same thing.
