Bug#518697: This severity needs to be bumped MUCH higher

aptitude and synaptic are currently deinstalled on my system (through no
action initiated by me and my system is BROKEN. There is some sort of
circular dependency problem preventing me from installing aptitude via
apt-get, and it looks like the culprit is some virtual package that is
not in the testing repository:

dpkg -i aptitude_0.4.11.11-1_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package aptitude.
(Reading database ... 133370 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking aptitude (from aptitude_0.4.11.11-1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of aptitude:
 aptitude depends on libapt-pkg-libc6.7-6-4.6; however:
  Package libapt-pkg-libc6.7-6-4.6 is not installed.
 aptitude depends on libept0 (>= 0.5.22); however:
  Package libept0 is not installed.
dpkg: error processing aptitude (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Processing triggers for man-db ...
Processing triggers for menu ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 aptitude

apt-get install aptitude synaptic
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
aptitude is already the newest version.
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  aptitude: Depends: libapt-pkg-libc6.7-6-4.6
Depends: libept0 (>= 0.5.22) but it is not going to be
installed
Recommends: aptitude-doc-en but it is not going to be
installed or
                        aptitude-doc
  synaptic: Depends: libapt-inst-libc6.7-6-1.1
            Depends: libapt-pkg-libc6.7-6-4.6
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or
specify a solution).
