Bug#498970: more parseable output distinguishing error/warnings/...
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.14+b1
Severity: wishlist
Please make apt output more parseable distinguishing among
error/warnings/info ...
Long story: I'm working on a tool to test drive apt runs and later on I
need to check if the run I've collected are reproducible in a "lab"
environment. Currently this is quite hard to do as apt output is not
meant to be parseable. Other bug reports have noted similar problems of
non machine-parseable output (e.g. #325786).
As a start, I propose to qualify *all* error related output with "E:",
and similarly "W:" for warnings.
I'm willing to submit a patch for that, but given that it will be quite
a boring patch to write, I would prefer to receive an ACK from the
maintainers that such a patch will be welcome, would it?
Many thanks for the hard work of maintaining apt!
Cheers.
