PackageKit

Hi all,
I'm part of the packageKit project (www.packagekit.org),
Actually i'm just doing the kde gui front end right now,
well there is already a guy developing a backend to apt,
a ubuntu guy..
Well the thing is that he is using python and i just, let me say
don't like..
So i was going to use the libapt with c++, but as i started to
read stuff to about apt i just found hundreds of projects aiming
to be a better api, (libEpt, apt-xapian....) so i stuck.
Then i talked to a friend that is closer to the Debian project
to ask who should i ask for advice, well he told me about this
list. now more one project deity or maybe only a codename...

So what do you recommend to me? if this is the future how
can i start using it to create a better apt backend for packagekit
on Debian?

BTW if some has interest in helpping me with this i would really
appreciate, since the gui took a lot of time too... :)

cheers,
Daniel.
