Bug#451292: Automatic Repository Failover
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.9
Severity: wishlist
--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I've had a significant number of issues with ftp.us.debian.org in the
past. Most recently a hash mismatch with Packages.bz2.
Mirrors have issues like this fairly often, yet apt contains no
functionality to try another mirror when one fails.
This would add some complexity to sources.list because apt would have to
know which repositories are mirrors of one another.
However, I'd love to see the default in the future be something like:
try apt-zeroconf first, then debtorrent, then your country's ftp mirror,
and finally fallback to the primary http mirror (or some similar
prioritization).
This might greatly decrease the load on mirrors and greatly increase the
reliability of apt clients.
Just a big wish from someone who knows nothing about apt and just wants
things to work. ;)
Thanks for the great software!
