Bug#322120: apt: No documentation available on use of release signatures? (No apt-secure(8)?)

Package: apt
Version: 0.6.40.1
Priority: wishlist

It seems that there is no documentation available either in the
apt or apt-doc packages regarding the support of signature verification.
Only by browsing the changelog I've been able to find a reference
to apt-key(8) which, itself, does not fully document this feature.
Also, this manpage is not referenced from any other apt manpage, that's
why I had to dig in the changelog to find it existed.

Please provide an apt-secure manpage, for example, which describes
what signature verification (what 'security' does it provide?) is about
and how to generate/add signatures for package archives which are not part
of Debian.

Matt's mail to debian-devel (when he announced apt-6.0) and
http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/174 might be useful in
writting that information. And, IIRC, there is other documentation
written by DDs out there in the net too.

If asked, I could provide sample manpages and a diff for this. But would
need to do some research before I get it right.

Regards

Javier
