Bug#254887: /usr/bin/apt-get: apt-get sould allow install local .deb files, calculate its dependences and install them
Package: apt
Version: 0.5.25
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/apt-get
Hello, I think that it would be nice that apt-get could install local
..deb files.
I mean, you have a file "foo_program.deb" and want to install in a way
similar to these:
# apt-get install --local foo_program.deb
or
# apt-get local-install foo_program.deb
Q- Which are the advantages of doing this? Why don't you use dpkg?
A- Because apt-get should calculate the dependences of
"foo_program.deb", then search the needed packages in configured
repositories, and download and install these extra packages.
It would be very very useful to hand made debian packages, or programs
that are being developed and still doesnt' have official Debian
packages, and don't have an APT repository.
