Without doing anything to a system like updating or upgrading or
installing packages I suddenly get following error when running apt-cache
search 'term' as user:
$ search anagram

This seems unlikely; if you didn't get this error before, _something_
changed the permissions on the file. "chmod o+r /var/lib/apt/lists/*" will
fix it.
Later versions of apt force these permissions automatically, so this is no
longer an issue. Closing.
