Yes, but you have not enabled the user to specify a /partial directory
different from the parent directory, no?  This poor assumption means
some users will have to copy an entire archive from a read-only medium
to a read/write medium, just for the privilege of being able to make
one symlink out of the archive to specify a different partial
directory.

Take the case of apt-zip and CDROMs.  Your assumption that the partial
directory must always be inside the parent directory means the entire
CDROM must be then copied to the hard disk.

I insist that you add a separate variable that will allow independent
control of the partial directory, if it is set.

BTW, my bug title was one can't specify "partial" _differently_.
