Package: apt
Version: 0.5.4

I want to remove exim, but this procedure want to remove some other
important packages like at, samba, ...

flinker:~# apt-get --purge remove exim
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
at* diffmon* exim* linuxconf* logrotate* mailx* mutt* samba*
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 8 to remove and 5 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 25.9MB will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n
Abort.

The other packages aren't marked for removing. Example:

ii at 3.1.8-11 Delayed job execution and batch processing

I don't understand why want removal of exim also want to remove some
other packages. Only a mistake?

Sorry if if don't post some importand info. This is my first bug report.
I use a woody only system.

Ruediger

Because the other packages depend on a mail-transport-agent. Exim provides
mail-transport-agent. So, apt will remove the other packages.

Install another mail-transport-agent, and all will be well.
