Query the version of a package to be installed?

Is it possible to ask apt which version of a package would be
installed by apt-get install?

Up until recently, I was using apt-cache showpkg, and selecting
the first version listed (as the versions are sorted from highest
to lowest in that output).  However, now that I'm using Pinning,
this doesn't do the trick any more -- the newest version may not
be the version I've pinned with the highest priority (in fact,
it almost never is, since I've pinned unstable at priority 10).
