E: Error occured while processing xlibs-dev (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: Unable to write mmap - msync (14 Bad address)
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
search on the web finds two such questions that remained unanswered on public lists... sorry I have no more leads myself. could this be some broken library from this week's Sid? this broke about 3-4 days ago.

The problem the last person who reported this had was some kind of weird
config file. Assuming that is not your problem you may want to try
rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin
