Er.

You cannot have a stray /var/cache/apt/lock, the file is ment to always
exist. APT uses fcntl locking.

The above error generally indicates that your http downloader segfaulted,
coupled with the fact it went away, and that in 3 years nobody has ever
reported that message suggests you have a hardware problem of some sort.
