Package: apt
Version: 0.3.19

I just wantet to upgrade a slink system and after installing $ ls -l ~/apt_0.3.19_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 rainer rami 2475942 May 22 2000 /home/rainer/apt_0.3.19_i386.deb

and editing /etc/apt/sources.list, apt-get update is not working any more:

I get for each line in sources.list a message like

Could not resolve 'security.debian.org'
Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/potato/updates/contrib/binary-i386/Release

I think the error message is missleading, because a simple ping ping security.debian.org works without problems.

sources.list is copied from a running potato system (which is on the same subnet and works perfectly):

# cat /etc/apt/sources.list
# Use for a local mirror - remove the ftp1 http lines for the bits
# your mirror contains.
# deb file:/your/mirror/here/debian stable main contrib non-free
# See sources.list(5) for more information, especial
# Remember that you can only use http, ftp or file URIs
#deb ftp://ftp.at.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free

deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian potato main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free
#Non-US
deb ftp://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US potato non-US/main non-US/contrib non-US/non-free
#Security updates
deb http://security.debian.org potato updates/main updates/contrib updates/non-free

#Slink entries
#deb http://security.debian.org slink updates
#deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian slink main contrib non-free
#deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US slink non-US

Thanks.

Rainer.

Read the release notes they tell you that the statically compiled APT can
not do DNS lookups.
