Bug#75411: apt-cache.8 documentation is misleading.
Package: apt
Severity: normal
Version: 0.3.19
The documentation would be better off mentioning that
"apt-cache search" does a regular expression search,
and not just a text search.
I suggest :
~/ref/apt-0.3.19 $ diff -u doc/apt-cache.8.yo{.orig,}
--- doc/apt-cache.8.yo.orig Tue Oct 24 01:40:45 2000
+++ doc/apt-cache.8.yo Tue Oct 24 01:41:58 2000

dit(bf(search))
bf(search) performs a full text search on all available package files for
-the pattern given. It searchs the package names and the descriptions for
+the regular expression pattern given. It searchs the package names and the descriptions for
an occurance of the string and prints out the package name and the short
description. If --full is given then output identical to bf(show) is produced
for each matched package and if --names-only is given then the long
regards,
junichi
