An idea to make keeping your system secure more simple
Keeping track of bugs in installed and to be installed packages is a
pain and requires a user to manually look bugs up on debian's website.
I would LOVE to see a button, dialog, or something in gnome-apt to
automatically grab the bug list from the web site for a given package
upon user request. The button/widget should be available for both the
currently installed version, and the available version. This way, a
user can get an idea of what bugs are known in each, to make a more
educated decision whether or not to upgrade or install. Of course this
bug lookup would not work unless the machine had a network connection,
but, to those with an internet connection, it would be of HUGE value.
Another useful ability would be to 'display all bugs of severity X or
above in all installed packages' so that a user could keep track of
known bugs. This would help busy system admins who want to stay updated
about security bugs, etc, but dont have time to watch and read every
message on bug traq. This would allow users to go out and get fixes
before they are available as updated deb packages, if required.
Anyway, just an idea that I had :)
