Bug#46293: apt: Weird error

Package: apt
Version: 0.3.11
Severity: normal

I got this weird error tonight. I suspect what happened is that the file was partially
downloaded earlier, then picked up now from where it left off then, but that the file
had been updated in the mean time. But that's just a theory, based on the fact that the
percentage complete seemed to start at 57%, but then I'm not clear whether that's the
batch percentage complete or the individual file.

E: Error occured while processing aleph-dev (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/state/apt/lists/http.us.debian.org_debian_dists_unstable_main_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

What's aleph-dev ?
