I'll keep that in mind for the future.

You might want to have "Internal Error" make a snapshot of the status
file (perhaps with a random number or date extension) and have the error
report suggest that this file could be useful to the developers of apt
if there's no more recent version of apt available.

If you can't do anything about a bug report, you can at least take
steps to capture information about future similar bug reports.
