Tell your friend to redownload the two .debs he is having problems with. 
(ie rm /var/cache/apt/archives/doc-*)  If you look in the status file and
compare that with what is in the archive you'll probably find that one of
the fields is different. The only way that happens is if someone uploaded
the same version twice with different characteristics that compressed to
the same .deb size (neat trick)..

apt-cache showpkg doc-linux-text will indicate that there are two copies
of the same version available because of this.
