Well, I was upgrading my machine to the newer libc6 and friends when I
found out about the #! /Bin/sh tzconfig bug. Since I've got a fast
connection, I figured I'd just use apt-get dist-upgrade (well -d
followed by). This way, I'd be on the cutting edge.

During the download, xfree86-common conflicted with some file in
afterstep. Afterstep was installed for someone who had left the lab. I
deleted afterstep. I then ran apt-get dist-upgrade again.

I got the following:
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Calculating Upgrade... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libgimp1.1.6 xpilot-server librecode0 libmikmod1 liblockfile1
The following packages have been kept back
  lilo mysql-client apache-common amanda-common apache libapache-mod-perl apache-dev apache-doc amanda-client
102 packages upgraded, 5 newly installed, 0 to remove and 9 not upgraded.
18 packages not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 283kB/63.5MB of archives. After unpacking 1167kB will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
Get:1 http://http.us.debian.org potato/main perl-base 5.004.04-7 [283kB]
Fetched 283kB in 5s (49.6kB/s)

This concerned me a bit since I know that I didn't upload a new
perl-base package and that's the latest one anyway:
ii perl-base 5.004.04-7 The Pathologically Eclectic Rubbish Lister

As you may guess, my machines stay at the latest Perl level.

What happened?

Darren
