Subject: apt: Remounting /usr read-write
To: submit@bugs.debian.org
X-Mailer: bug 3.1.5

Package: apt
Version: 0.1.5
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Would it be possible to make apt automatically remount my /usr partition
read-write when installing, then remount it read-only when it's finished?

I'd envisage something like
	/etc/apt/before.sh
and	/etc/apt/after.sh

which would contain the appropriate mount commands for individual situations.

While I'm not willing to trust myself and others not to accidently do
stupid things to system binaries, I'm quite prepared to trust dpkg and
apt to do the right thing, and I'd like to avoid the annoying errors
dpkg gives when /usr is read-only.

Thanks,
aj
