Subject: apt: apt is not self-contained
To: submit@bugs.debian.org
X-Mailer: bug 3.1.5

Package: apt
Version: 0.0.13

I use dselect's --admin-dir option a lot for updating my system at home via
sneaker net and a Zip medium which is very convenient.

While this work's perfectly well with dselect's ftp method it fails for apt
because I use different distributions at home and at work. This does not work
because apt stores its sources database in /etc/apt which renders dselect's
--admin-dir option useless in connection with apt.

Otherwise I'd like to say that apt is really great! It is fast, can retrieve
packages form many locations, has nice progress indication and seems to be
pretty clever when it comes to dependencies. Wow! Can't wait to see the
GUI front-end ;-) Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your time.

Regards
