Gnome-apt 0.3.1 available

What is Gnome-Apt?
Gnome-apt is a GUI front-end for the apt package tool, written by
Havoc Pennington. Gnome-apt allows you to easily upgrade your Debian
system, as well as search and filter the available packages.
Visit Havoc's homepage for screenshots and more.
http://www.debian.org/~hp/gnome-apt.html

What is new in 0.3.1?
Tweaks and duct-tape. The most prominent change is that it is compiled
against the Gnome 1.0 and GTK 1.2 libs. This will allow those of you
who want to move to Gnome 1.0 to do so without giving up gnome-apt.

How do I get it?
The i386 debs are located at
http://www.debian.org/~mblevin/gnome-apt/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386
Note that you will also need the latest cvs version of apt (0.3.1).
The new apt is also located at the above URL, so the easiest way to get
gnome-apt is to add a line to your /etc/apt/sources.list like:

deb http://www.debian.org/~mblevin/gnome-apt unstable main

and then to an 'apt-get update; apt-get install gnome-apt'
This is assuming that you already have the gnome 1.0 libs. If you don't,
then you should also add another line to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://www.debian.org/~jules/gnome-stage-2 unstable main

Didn't you want to warn me about something?
Yes, I'm glad you reminded me. The Gnome 1.0 stuff is not in the main
distribution for a reason, because it hasn't been tested thoroughly with
the existing packages in potato. Be prepared for some roughness.
Also, you should be aware that apt_0.3.1, which is needed for gnome-apt
does not contain an ftp method. If you use ftp for your apt upgrades,
you should probably change to http or else not use gnome-apt.
Also, gnome-apt has some unintended features... be prepared to help
debug if you decide to use it.

How can I help?
If you find a bug in gnome-apt, please report it to apt@packages.debian.org,
but only *AFTER* you have checked the buglist at Havoc's page
(http://www.debian.org/~hp/gnome-apt.html). Do NOT use the BTS
for bugs against gnome-apt.
If you would like to help code, then follow the directions at Havoc's page
for CVS access, and read the Task list on his page for projects needing
work.

Have fun,
-Mitch
