From: Joey Hess <joey@kitenet.net>
Subject: apt: lack of error messages
To: submit@bugs.debian.org
X-Mailer: bug 3.1.5

Package: apt
Version: 0.1.3

I wanted to install libwww-perl.

root@box:~joey>apt-get -f install libwww-perl
Updating package status cache...done
Checking system integrity...ok
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 5 not upgraded.

This was quite confusing. It seemed to just ignore my request. libwww-perl
isn't installed at all.

I figured out the probkem when I went into dselect and selected libwww-perl:

libwww-perl depends on libmime-base64-perl
libmime-base64-perl does not appear to be available
libwww-perl recommends libmd5-perl
libmd5-perl does not appear to be available

I think apt should generate some sort of an error message here.
