Bug#729849: xterm: alt key doesn't do commands

Dear Maintainer,
left alt key doesn't do commands instead it prints characters
example
in nano editor left alt-w is supposed to search next one but instead prints character "÷" from unknown "layout".
expecting command functions which depends on a program used.
