Nope, it's not glib's fault, tried reverting and that didn't help.What helped is setting the relevant gconf key (/desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager) to compiz instead of gnome-wm, now compiz is working correctly again.
Something's fishy with that gnome-wm, but that is part of another package (gnome-session).
